Competent Nurse Job The competent nurse practices independently in various clinical settings, demonstrating awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Routine and complex care are provided with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. The nurse continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Provides leadership as a means to help manage the clinical situation. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers. CHRISTUS Hospital - Westover Hills is a 150-bed hospital serving the fastest growing area of San Antonio. Specialized care includes orthopedic and surgical services, ICU, women's services, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular care from diagnostics to open heart surgery, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, wound care, rehabilitation, and more. Responsibilities: Meets expectations of the applicable One Competency: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients. Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patient and families in accordance with their level of practice. Using the appropriate protocol, administers medications and treatments; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed. Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given. Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, family members and/or caregivers. Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred. One year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred. Benefits: Varied work schedule. Full-time position. Additional Information: Work requires standing, walking, sitting, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, grasping, holding, and repetitive motion. May be exposed to loud noises, strong odors, hazardous materials, contagious diseases, chemicals, electrical hazards, temperature extremes, wet conditions, and heavy objects. May also be exposed to stress and anxiety associated with caring for critically ill patients.
