The role of the Competent Nurse involves delivering routine and complex care to patients in a Neuro/Surgical ICU setting.
This unit is a 22-bed Neuro/Surgical ICU, with neuro being the primary focus. We admit a vast array of patients including strokes, head trauma, craniotomies, aneurysm repairs, ICP monitoring, EVD placement/monitoring, and organ procurement.
The Nurse's Responsibilities include:
Meeting expectations of the applicable competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
Providing nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients.
Addressing increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patient and families in accordance with their level of practice.
Administering medications and treatments; monitoring for side-effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
Documenting patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
Assessing learning needs and providing education to patients, family members and/or caregivers; identifying issues and resources.
To be successful, the Critical Care Registered Nurse must possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
One year of experience in Critical Care setting, preferred but will accept new graduates.
Current ACLS certification required.
