Job Summary:
Life Skills Consultants (LSCs) provide direct, individualized instruction and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). Services are designed to build adaptive skills, promote independence, and support person-centered goals outlined in each individual's Person-Centered Service Plan (PCSP). LSCs collaborate with clients, caregivers, and care teams to deliver high-quality life skills services across community and home-based settings.
This role prioritizes field-based service delivery, with some support provided through HIPAA-compliant teleservices as authorized. LSCs may work one-on-one or with small groups, using trauma-informed, person-centered strategies to address skill-building, self-advocacy, daily living routines, and safety awareness.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized instruction in adaptive skills, communication, safety, and daily living, in alignment with life skills objectives and PCSP goals. Develop and implement SMART goals that reflect measurable, time-bound life skills outcomes. Provide services through a combination of in-person visits and HIPAA-compliant teleservices, with field-based work prioritized in accordance with contract expectations. Track client progress and maintain thorough, time-stamped documentation in 15-minute billing increments. Submit an initial Life Skills Support Plan within 30 days of service initiation. Submit quarterly progress reports if services are authorized and extended by an additional 90 days. Update goals and strategies as needed throughout the terms of service, based on client progress and evolving needs. Collaborate with family members, caregivers, SFCs, and other providers to ensure consistent, individualized support. Initiate referrals to medical or mental health professionals when client needs exceed the scope of LSC services.
Documentation & Reporting:
Develop SMART goals that are specific, measurable, observable, and time-limited, addressing no more than three active goals at a time. Clearly define the service subcategory, frequency, and methods to be used. Include treatment strategies, progress measurement tools, and clear goal completion criteria. Submit accurate quarterly reports for any services continuing past the initial 90 days. Reports must include goal updates, progress summaries, service dates, number of units delivered, and any relevant referrals or coordination with other providers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related human services field A minimum of 1 year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (ID/DD) in crisis is required. This experience must be clearly documented on the resume, including: total years of experience, whether the population served had ID/DD, and the duration of service in each relevant role. Valid Washington State Driver's License and reliable transportation Clean driving record and ability to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check

Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, or kneel for extended periods Travel required between client locations within assigned counties Potential exposure to challenging behaviors or bodily fluids; PPE is provided as needed Must remain effective in both active and sedentary environments
Work Environment:
Scheduling is flexible and based on client availability; some evening or weekend sessions may be required Services are delivered in a primarily field-based capacity, with teleservices used only as authorized and appropriate Supported by a collaborative team structure under the supervision of a Staff and Family Consultant (SFC) Primary service areas include Whatcom, Skagit, Island, Snohomish, and King Counties
