Degree/Education: Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy with graduation from an accredited college/university through the Commission on accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and Physical American Therapy Association (ATPA). Must pass the national physical therapy exam through Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Certifications: (BLS) Basic Life Support. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. Experience: No experience necessary. Licensure/Registration: Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Utilizes therapeutic methodologies for examination, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and outcome assessment of DoD beneficiaries. Independently manages complex neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders as a fully privileged physical therapist. Provides direct access evaluation for acute musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions in outpatient settings. Plans and implements specialized treatments for acutely ill patients or those with severe disabilities and complications. Orders radiographs, laboratory tests, prescribes medications, and refers to specialists as necessary. Performs electrodiagnostic testing, needle insertion, and treats infants in neonatal intensive care units, when privileged. Applies advanced treatment techniques, including manual therapy, and uses motivational techniques to support patient progress. Develops and monitors evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation programs. Maintains productivity standards and ensures care access meets AFMS guidelines. Coordinates patient care with other staff and network providers. Prescribes adaptive equipment, orthoses, braces, and therapeutic devices as needed. Adapts treatment methods to resolve complex issues and modifies plans based on patient progress. Assesses functional limitations and generates written activity restrictions as needed. Provides musculoskeletal injury prevention and fitness-for-duty evaluations. Complies with HIPAA and maintains patient privacy. Adheres to APTA, AAAHC, TJC, and local facility policies and standards. Provides guidance and training to physical therapy students, assistants, and medical staff. Develops clinical education and performance plans for staff. Serves as a consultant for physical therapy in the military healthcare system. Ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient care in compliance with DoD and professional standards. Manages administrative responsibilities and adjusts therapy schedules to meet workload demands. Uses electronic systems for documentation and administrative tasks. Delivers briefings and hands-on training on rehabilitation techniques. Develops treatment protocols and guidelines for the Physical Medicine Evaluation and Management Program. Stays updated on treatment trends and recommends new methods or policies. Leads rehabilitation team meetings and participates in staff meetings and in-services. May serve as clinical peer review director for Physical Medicine providers, as per local credentialing policies.
