13 Days Old

The role of Director of Inpatient Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) for Neurosurgery is a senior operational and clinical leadership position responsible for guiding and enhancing the high-acuity neurosurgical APP program. This program encompasses inpatient care, critical care, operative services, and ambulatory practice within a leading academic medical center. The director works closely with key stakeholders including the Chair of Neurosurgery and the Executive Director of Inpatient APPs to drive strategic initiatives, workforce integration, clinical excellence, and cultural change in the organization. The position involves overseeing approximately 2,000 neurosurgical cases annually, heavily focused on trauma, as well as elective and non-elective surgeries, supported by a 24-bed neuro intensive care unit.

The Director's key responsibilities include providing clinical leadership and integration across a 22-member neurosurgical APP team. This involves maintaining active clinical practice in areas such as neurosurgery clinics, inpatient rounding, and ICU coverage while partnering with faculty to optimize team-based care models. Operational duties include managing complex staffing and shift coverage to ensure reliability, particularly for high-acuity night shifts. The role necessitates leading workforce management, including recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development. Additionally, the Director will play a central role in planning long-term service line growth strategies and leading cultural transformation efforts in a complex academic environment.

The ideal candidate for this position would be a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with substantial experience in neurosurgery or neurocritical care within a high-acuity academic or tertiary care setting. Candidates should possess a deep understanding of service coverage models and have a demonstrated ability in strategic planning and change leadership, supporting the academic mission through education and contributing to quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practices. This role is crucial in supporting the expansion of the neurosurgery residency program and furthering resident-APP integration to maintain clinical excellence within a dynamic and evolving academic medical environment.
