This job provides diagnostic care according to departmental guidelines and standing orders under the direction of the physician. Enables the operations of the section, provides technical expertise with procedures, and serves as patient advocate. Maintains complete knowledge of pacemaker/ Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) follow-up care, cardio-beepers and pacemaker/ICD database systems, and Electrocardiogram (EKG) and interpretation. Provides quality reports for physician interpretation, dictation, and distribution.

Education

Required - Registered nurse diploma.

Preferred - Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing.


Work Experience

Required - 1 year of experience with pacemakers and/or ICDs.

Experience interpreting cardiac arrhythmia and accurately interpreting 12 lead EKG and rhythm strips.


Certifications

Required - Current register nurse (RN) license in state of practice.

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred - Cardiac Technician certification or higher.

Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
