Description: This is a mixed acuity unit that provides care for medical surgical patients specializing in neurology and neurosurgery. The unit cares for a specialized patient population including strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, and brain and spinal cord tumors. RNs should be prepared to care for up to five medical-surgical patients. Patients may have drips, and the nurse must be competent in managing various intravenous therapies. The unit features long-term EEG monitoring capabilities. Nursing ratios are 1:5 during the day and can vary at night, with a maximum of 1:7. Stepdown ratios are 1:3-4 for both days and nights. All staff must adhere to nicotine-free policies. Weekend commitment includes working four weekend shifts out of eight possible in a four-week period. Travelers must work two out of three major holidays. RTO must be submitted with the application; additional requests are at the manager's discretion. No locals are accepted; candidates must be more than 100 miles from the facility. Entry into labs is required within 48-72 hours of acceptance. All contracts must conclude on a Sunday.
