Description: This is a medical-surgical unit composed of twelve private rooms and two semi-private rooms. The unit has a potential maximum census of 16 patients. It focuses on patients with vascular disease diagnoses. The patient population ranges from young adults through geriatrics. Admissions may also include other medical-surgical and telemetry overflow patients. The typical patient ratio on this unit is 1 nurse to 6 patients. The unit is equipped with telemetry capabilities.

Skills required include: Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias. Telemetry monitoring on the unit. Pre/Post Hemodialysis management. Management of renal failure. Non-invasive airway management. Colostomy and ileostomy management. Feeding tube care and management. Blood product administration. Central line blood draws. PICC line management. Starting and maintaining IVs. Medication administration including Heparin and Insulin. Use of High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and nasal cannula. Oral suctioning and oxygen administration. Wound care and wound vac application.

Interdisciplinary support includes: Physical therapy. Respiratory services. Interpretation services. Phlebotomy. Radiology. Social services. Rapid response teams. Pharmacy. Transportation. Unit secretary.

The daily census can reach up to 16 patients. There are 12 private rooms and 2 semi-private rooms available on the unit. This unit primarily deals with vascular disease diagnoses.
